Masa Shiroki, the man behind Granville Island’s Artisan SakeMaker, is joining our very own Executive Chef Takashi Ito to pair 5 beautiful sake with 5 sumptuous plates.

Sake is an alcoholic, rice-based beverage originating in Japan, sometimes referred to as rice wine. It is important to note that it is not like true wine, where alcohol is made from fermenting sugar present in the fruit.

Shiroki is heralded his ability to make award-winning sake. True dedication to the production of sake lead Shiroki to plant his own rice crops in Canada so that he could make “truly Canadian sake”.
